Shack Shack is known for burgers, but our origins are in hot dogs.
The original concept for Shake Shack began as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in 2001, founded by Danny Meyer to fund an art exhibit called “I <3 Taxi.’.
The cart sold hot dogs for three summers until 2004, when Shake Shack was born as a permanent kiosk.
Inspired by his Midwestern roots, Danny’s quest for the perfect dog led him to Vienna Beef, a Chicago-based hot dog manufacturer founded in 1893. Vienna Beef sent samples to Danny and the tasting crew, and the rest is hot dog history.
